Non-Profit Organization
Cheetahs
The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the survival of cheetahs in the wild. Founded in 1990 by Dr. Laurie Marker, CCF focuses on research, conservation, and education programs to address the threats facing cheetahs, such as habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and illegal wildlife trade. CCF operates the only long-term cheetah research program in the world, based at its field research center in Namibia, where the largest remaining wild cheetah population lives.
Snow Leopards
The Snow Leopard Trust is the world's oldest and largest organization dedicated solely to the conservation of snow leopards. Founded in 1981, this non-profit works across 12 countries in Central Asia, focusing on research, community engagement, and advocacy to protect these elusive big cats and their fragile mountain ecosystems. The Trust supports scientific studies to better understand snow leopard behavior and ecology, while also partnering with local communities to promote sustainable livelihoods and reduce human-wildlife conflict. Through these efforts, the Snow Leopard Trust strives to ensure the long-term survival of this endangered species.
Siberian Tigers (Amur Tiger Center)
The Amur Tiger Center plays a crucial role in protecting Siberian tigers, also known as Amur tigers, by implementing a multifaceted approach to conservation. They focus on preserving and expanding tiger habitat, working to ensure these big cats have ample space and resources to thrive. A key aspect of their work involves combating poaching and illegal trade, directly addressing the threats posed by those who hunt tigers for their pelts or body parts. The Center also works to restore the tiger population, implementing measures to encourage breeding and increase the number of tigers in the wild. Furthermore, they strive to
reduce human-wildlife conflict by working with local communities to promote coexistence and mitigate potential issues that arise when tigers and humans share the same space. Through these combined efforts, the Amur Tiger Center is dedicated to securing a future for these endangered animals.
Wild Cat Sanctuary
https://www.wildcatsanctuary.org/
The Wild Cat Sanctuary is a big cat rescue facility in Sandstone, Minnesota, providing a permanent, accredited sanctuary for abused, abandoned, and unwanted captive wild cats. Unlike zoos or roadside attractions, the Sanctuary focuses on rescuing animals that have often experienced horrific conditions, including neglect, exploitation, and improper care. They offer spacious, natural habitats where the cats can live out their lives in peace and dignity, free from the pressures of performing or breeding. The Wild Cat Sanctuary is not open to the public for tours, prioritizing the well-being of the animals and minimizing human intrusion into their lives. Instead, they offer educational outreach programs and opportunities for virtual engagement to raise awareness about the plight of captive wild cats and advocate for stronger regulations to prevent their exploitation.
